This experiment, unique in France, is based on an innovative, social rather than medical approach, the main components of which are:
benevolent architecture
elimination of medical symbols (no white coats, etc.)
support customization
respect for tastes and rhythms of life
maintain close ties with loved ones
integration into the urban fabric and city life
The Landais Alzheimer village is home to 120 inhabitants, including 10 under the age of 60, accompanied by 120 employees and 120 volunteers.
Why Dax?
The philosophy of the village
A unique experiment in France, the Village Landais responds to a national and European ambition in terms of social life, health, research to improve the quality of life and the well-being of patients and their caregivers. The Landais Village is developing support focused on the person and non-drug approaches, driven by an attitude and therapeutic activities allowing the best possible preservation of the cognitive and practical capacities of the inhabitants. All staff must have a state of mind, a culture of support, in particular by the attention paid to the measure of the patient's remaining capacities so as not to put him in a situation of failure.
As a place of innovation, other establishments or home care services can find either support in the form of support, or new models of care. The Village hosts a Resource and Research Center bringing together French specialists in Alzheimer's disease and the training of health professionals and medico-social care in order to disseminate best therapeutic practices.
A village adapted to its inhabitants
The management of the Village is made up of multidisciplinary and versatile staff (doctors, nurses, gerontological assistants, psychologist, occupational therapist, psychomotor therapist, animators ...), administrative staff (management, accounting ...) and general services (catering, interview). In total, this represents 120 people (full-time equivalent).
Complementary to professionals, volunteers are an integral part of the project. By bringing local life to the heart of the Village, they participate in the therapeutic innovation of the project. Each of them can come and exercise their activity with individual residents or benefit from the infrastructures available to the Village. Concert in the auditorium, painting in the activity room, reading in the media library are just a few of the activities that will bring the cultural and associative life of Dacq into the lives of the inhabitants.
The Village is inspired by traditional Landes architecture and functions as a real village in which the inhabitants enjoy great freedom of movement. The Franco-Danish project management team Champagnat & Grégoire (Landes) and Nord Architects (Copenhagen) imagined a village whose life is organized around a central place: the Bastide. From a technical point of view, the shapes, materials and equipment have been chosen to promote natural lighting, ensure the sustainability of spaces and guarantee simple, scalable and economical operation. In particular, the project aims for very high performance in energy management, in the hygrothermal comfort of users and in maintaining long-term environmental performance.
La Bastide, a place of life and services, in the heart of the Village, offers a café-restaurant, a departmental network media library, an auditorium open to all, a medical center with 9 accommodation studios for trainees and caregivers, a grocery store and a hairdresser. Learn more
In a wooded environment, four quarters of four households each will be deployed to accommodate the 120 future inhabitants: district of Chalosse, district of the Atlantic Coast, district of Bas-Armagnac and district of Haute Lande.
16 houses of 300 m² inspired by traditional Landes architecture (colors, materials, local species) will accommodate 7 to 8 inhabitants. Each of them has been designed to respect the different lifestyles of the inhabitants, but also to respect their autonomy and their privacy. It is a familiar and family environment that is offered.
