In order to serve the fundamental ambition of the event, which was improving the state of elderly and dementia care worldwide, Francis Lacoste represented the Landes Department Council to testify about the Village Landais Alzheimer. By offering person-centred and nonpharmacological approaches to Alzheimer patients, this experimental place hosts great hope for a future respectful care of all dementia sufferers.
Francis Lacoste, manager of the Village, took part in a dialogue with another one of the most hands-on developers, Mr. Eloy van Hal, Senior Advisor from Hogeweyk village in The Netherlands. Hogeweyk is a specially designed village with 23 houses for the 152 elderly living with dementia. The design and decoration of the homes and surroundings is tailored to the different lifestyles of its residents.
By trying to understand the unique needs of the population of those living with dementia, those two most large-scale residential projects are the center of attention from many who want to find new ways to work around such diseases.
